Bottomless Portafilters & Baskets
See the underside of the basket as espresso flows. A bottomless portafilter helps you spot uneven extraction while you adjust your grind, dose and puck preparation.
Compare 54 mm Breville and 58 mm E61 options, plus replacement baskets. Check the listed machine models, locking tabs and basket depth before choosing.

What is a bottomless portafilter?
A portafilter with the bottom and spouts cut away, so you can watch the underside of the basket as espresso flows. It shows channeling and uneven extraction immediately, which makes it a diagnostic tool for dialing in.
Why is my bottomless portafilter spraying?
Spraying means water is channeling through weak spots in the puck. Common causes are clumps, an uneven tamp, a dose that is too low for the basket or a grind that is too coarse. Use a WDT tool, tamp level and check your dose.
Does a bottomless portafilter make better espresso?
Not by itself, but it helps you get there. Because you see problems as they happen, you can correct grind and puck prep faster than by taste alone.
Will a 58 mm bottomless portafilter fit any 58 mm machine?
No. Locking lugs differ between group heads. The 58 mm portafilters here are for E61 group heads; machines such as the Gaggia Classic and Rancilio Silvia use 58 mm baskets but different lugs.
