Move the needles through the full depth and width of the coffee bed, then finish near the surface to level the grounds. More even preparation can help reduce obvious weak paths that contribute to channeling.

The handheld WDT design can be used with common 51 mm, 53 mm, 54 mm and 58 mm portafilter baskets - Breville/Sage, De'Longhi, Gaggia, Rancilio and most other home machines. Keep the needles away from the basket wall and avoid forceful contact with the metal base.

Protect the fine needle tips
Brush away loose coffee after each session and wipe the body with a dry or lightly damp cloth. Dry all parts fully before storage. Avoid abrasive cleaners, do not bend the needles, and handle the pointed ends carefully.

What is a WDT tool and what does WDT stand for?
WDT stands for Weiss Distribution Technique. A WDT tool is a set of fine needles you stir through the ground coffee in the portafilter after dosing and before tamping, to break up clumps and distribute the grounds evenly so water flows through the puck uniformly.
Does WDT really improve espresso?
For most home setups, yes. Breaking up clumps and levelling the bed reduces channeling - the weak paths water rushes through - which makes extraction more even and shots more repeatable. The difference is most noticeable with grinders that produce clumpy grounds. See our guide on reducing channeling.
When should I use the WDT tool?
Use it after dosing coffee into the basket and before tamping. Distribute first, then remove the tool, tamp and brew.
Does it replace a tamper?
No. The needles break up clumps and redistribute grounds; a tamper such as the Yozcoffee spring-loaded tamper is still used afterward to compress the coffee bed.
Which basket sizes can I use it with?
The handheld design is suitable for common 51 mm, 53 mm, 54 mm and 58 mm single or double baskets, which covers most Breville/Sage, De'Longhi, Gaggia, Rancilio and similar home machines.

Handheld or rotating WDT - which should I choose?
This handheld tool lets you control the stirring pattern and is intended for the common basket sizes listed above. The Yozcoffee Rotating WDT Distributor is sized to one basket (51, 53 or 58 mm), sits on the portafilter and is twisted, so the needle depth and coverage are the same every time. Choose the handheld tool for flexibility and value; choose the rotating distributor for speed and repeatability on a single machine.
Are replacement needles included?
Yes. Spare needles are supplied with a compact protective storage tube, and the needle head is detachable.
Which Yozcoffee grinder pairs with it?
Choose a grinder whose stated capabilities match your espresso machine and basket. Review the 35-setting grinder specifications, then dial in with your own coffee. Grind settings are model-specific, and WDT cannot compensate for a grind that is too coarse or too fine.
How should I clean and store it?
Brush off grounds, wipe clean, dry fully and protect the pointed needles from bending or impact. Handle the tips carefully.
