Which coffee accessories make the biggest difference?
Choosing your coffee equipment
Which accessory improves coffee flavor the most?
Storing beans properly and weighing each dose usually matter most. An airtight canister slows staling after the bag is opened, and a 0.1 g scale lets you repeat a recipe exactly. Both cost far less than a grinder upgrade.
Do I need a milk frother if my machine has a steam wand?
No. With a steam wand you need a steaming pitcher: 350 ml suits one drink, 600 ml suits two or a large latte. A handheld or automatic frother is for machines without a wand, or for foam on drip coffee, matcha and cold drinks.
How often should I clean my coffee equipment?
Brush out the portafilter and group head after each session, wipe the steam wand after every use and clean the grinder every few weeks. Old coffee oils turn rancid and add bitter, stale flavors to fresh coffee.
Is a travel kettle good enough for pour-over?
For one or two cups, yes. The portable kettles here hold 400 or 550 ml and offer 4 or 6 temperature presets, so you can heat water to the right range. For the most controlled pour at home, use a gooseneck kettle.
