Single dosing means weighing each portion of whole beans before you grind, instead of keeping beans in the grinder hopper. Single dose storage tubes make this easy: you weigh several doses in one session, cap each tube, and pour one tube into the grinder when it is time to brew. This guide explains how to use them, based on the two tube sets Yozcoffee sells.

What a single dose tube set includes

Walnut Single Dose Tubes Dosing Tubes with Black Rack
Tubes 12, lead-free borosilicate glass 12, clear tubes
Capacity per tube About 20–22 g whole beans One pre-weighed portion
Caps Threaded wood-grain screw caps Screw-top caps, black or walnut-tone
Holder Solid walnut base, 2 rows of 6, 2.4 cm deep recesses Countertop rack, 2 rows of 6, grip pads
Opening 3 cm (1.2 in) –

Actual fill depends on bean size and roast, so check how your dose fits the tube before you prepare a full week of portions.

How to pre-weigh a week of doses

  1. Set a scale to zero with an empty tube or a weighing cup on it. A bean scale bowl or a weighing cup scale reads in 0.1 g steps.
  2. Weigh your usual dose, for example 18 g for espresso or 15 g for pour-over, and pour it into the tube.
  3. Close the screw cap and put the tube back in the rack.
  4. Repeat for as many doses as you plan to brew.
  5. When it is time to brew, pour one tube straight into your grinder and put the empty tube back in the rack.

Why single dose tubes help

  • No weighing at the grinder: each tube is already a measured dose.
  • Several coffees at once: keep an espresso roast, a decaf and a light filter roast side by side, and choose one for each brew.
  • Visible stock: clear walls show which beans are in each tube and how many doses are left.

Storage tips

  • Keep the rack away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Label tubes or keep different coffees in separate rows so they stay easy to tell apart.
  • For larger amounts of beans, use an airtight canister and fill the tubes from it. See our guide How to Store Coffee Beans.

Questions about this guide

How many grams of coffee beans fit in one single dose tube?
The walnut borosilicate glass tube set holds about 20 to 22 g of whole beans per tube, which covers a standard 18 g espresso dose or 15 to 20 g single-cup pour-over. Actual capacity varies by roast level and bean size.
Can I pour from single dose tubes straight into a hand grinder?
Yes. The 3 cm (1.2 in) tube mouth pours cleanly into most manual burr grinders and single-dose electric grinder hoppers without needing a separate funnel.
How should I position a single dose tube rack on my counter?
Keep the rack out of direct sunlight and away from ovens, stovetops or the warm top tray of an espresso machine, and store the rest of your bag in an airtight coffee canister.
